In 2011, Brian will serve as the General Chair on the Far West PETS Committee responsible for training over 530 president elects from 9 rotary districts.  Brian has also assisted in the annual preparation of the District Memorial Service for deceased Rotarians and has continued to serve both the District and Zone Institute in such capacity for four of the past five years.

His family hosted Dasha Korokina, the first Russian student ever to visit District 5180.  She stayed with Brian’s family for most of her time in the states and became the “second daughter” in the family.  Although it has been nearly nine years since she was in the U.S., Dasha still exchanges emails with Dad Brian, Mom Jo Ann and Sister Lindsay.  Dasha has since graduated from the University of Irkursk with a degree in economics and is employed by the government.

Brian has several interests outside of work.  He enjoys growing camellias; rebuilding classic autos and wine tasting.  The last interest is particularly unique in that he judges wine at commercial and home wine competitions.  He is a Past President of the Sacramento Home Winemakers Club.  He has been a wine judge for nearly 20 years and is one of 225 California State Certified Wine Judges.  He has been nicknamed “the District 5180’s Wine Guy” and enjoys assisting people in developing their own wine appreciation.
