ORANGEVALE ROTARY 1960 - Present

The Orangevale Rotary Club had its beginning April 30, 1960 when a committee of members of the Folsom Rotary Club proceeded with the request and approval from District 519 to form a new club in Orangevale. The chairman of the committee and person who spearheaded this task was the late Dr. Carl Sundahl. He was unofficial advisor to the club for several years. Orangevale has close ties to the roots of Rotary International, since RI was founded in 1905 in Chicago, which later sponsored the San Francisco, who founded the Folsom Club.
Our first president was Richard Bacon, owner of Orangevale Glass Company on Greenback Lane. A very successful membership drive resulted in a membership of 30 by the end of the first year.
During the 60's and 70's, Orangevale Rotary and Orangevale Chamber of Commerce served as area representatives regarding zoning decisions and events affecting the Orangevale area. Also during the 70's, the city of Folsom tried to annex Orangevale. Members of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Orangevale Community Planning Advisory Council prevented this annexation.
Through the years Orangevale Rotary has emphasized involvement and support of a large number of organizations and activities:
Sponsorship of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Providing leadership for Friends of the Orangevale Library and strong support for a permanent library in Orangevale Installation of Little League playground irrigation systems Support of and involvement in Pioneer Days, Pow-Wow Days, and Country Faire Days Development of the Orangevale Community Plan Membership on Community Advisory Council Development of Orangevale Community Park Development of local K-12 school programs and activities, e.g. speech and essay contests Participation in Group Study Exchanges Annual sponsorship of an incoming Rotary Youth Exchange student Strong support of the Rotary Foundation Good weekly meetings with fellowship and quality programs, accompanied by good humor High quality membership Programs which help educate young people and help them to appreciate different cultures in the world Help for people less fortunate than we Good communication among members, e.g. outstanding weekly bulletin, "You and Me" partnership program, regular productive Board of Directors meetings Development and support of a large Interact Club at Casa Roble High School Scholarships for academics, community service, and vocational programs
We presently have 44 members, with 27 Paul Harris Fellows, ten honorary Paul Harris Fellows, and 100% sustaining Paul Harris Fellows among the members. WE also have ten Pual Harris Fellows who are spouses or children of Orangevale Rotarians, as well as 24 benefactors.
One can be proud to be a member of an organization which has a history of "making a difference" in the community and in the world.
