Community Service |
|
"Service Above Self," the motto of Rotary International, is best exemplified locally by the avenue of service called Community Service. The many local projects (usually over 25) completed by Orangevale Rotarians yearly provide a vital resource for the residents and business people of Orangevale. For the last three years, our club has taken on improvement projects at several schools which serve Orangevale residents. We have painted large-scale colored maps of the United States at several elementary schools, Green Oaks Elementary School being the latest recipient. In 1999 we completed the creation of an entirely new varsity girls softball field at Casa Roble High School. In 2000, together with school staff and dedicated local volunteers, we created an amphitheater at Roberts Elementary School. In 2001 the club completed construction of a cross country track at Pasteur Middle School. The current major project is a technology lab at the Orangevale community library.

The holidays provide opportunities for many local efforts to help the needy. Annually, we provide Christmas gifts and caroling at a senior citizen Alzheimer's facility, with the help of the Girl Scouts and Casa Roble Interact members. With the help of the Boy Scouts, we provide baskets for the needy in Orangevale at Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we also provided the staff for the collection and distribution of over 80 baskets at Christmas through Divine Savior Church. Recipients did not have to be church members. We also work with the Folsom Zoo, providing wrapped Christmas gift boxes for the animals to open and enjoy the treat (food) inside.
