The Four Avenues of Service
Rotary operates within the structure of four avenues of service: community, club, vocational, and international. Every member serves on one of these committees headed by a director who serves on the Board of Directors. The committees meet at least quarterly during club assemblies held as part of the regular weekly meeting. |
The Community Service Committee, as the name implies, takes responsibility for planning and completing projects which meet community needs, whether conducted solely by Orangevale Rotary, or in conjunction with other organizations or individuals. Typically, the club organizes over 25 such events annually. |
The Club Service Committee is responsible for fellowship activities which promote acquaintance and friendship among the members and participation by members in organized Rotary recreational and social activities. The committee also oversees the weekly newsletter and other methods of communication, such as website development. |
The Vocational Service Committee assumes responsibility for improving the general standards of practice in the vocations. The committee supervises the Interact Club, a high school service branch of Rotary, and provides opportunities for both students and adults to learn about professions and vocations through visits to worksites and vocational presentations.
The International Service Committee focuses on programs and projects which extend beyond national boundaries, such as exchanges of students, young professional adults, and Rotarian friendship groups. The committee also supports programs which meet international needs, such as PolioPlus. It also seeks applicants for ambassadorial and cultural scholarships sponsored by Rotary International.
