Greetings:
Here's the current contact info for Steve Lack (Battling Medicare Fraud): 925-938-4864, munro1@aol.com. I've seen his presentation, and he tells stories of Medicare fraud that knock your socks off!
Recently at Orangevale Rotary I witnessed Arnold Kunst's presentation about Abraham Lincoln's use of humor, and let me tell you that Arnold is a dramatic speaker who brought Abe back to life! Here's the info:
Introducting Abraham Lincoln to the 21st Century
by Arnold Kunst, 916-213-7463, vouched for by a past president of Fullerton South Rotary. Arnold offers for sale his book Lincoln 365 and CD The Wit & Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln and donates of portion of each sale back to the Rotary club.
Those Were the Days, a fascinating look at some famous people who were part of Sacramento's colorful history. Hear Bill Pettite, local historian, author, and public speaker tell stories about Jean Harlow, Joe DiMaggio, Wyatt Earp, Max and Buddy Bear, and the Folsom Prison warden murdered by the inmates. Rancho Cordova Rotary said Bill was great. Contact him at 916-967-4500.
Rotarian Ray Ward has a very timely presentation, Rotary and Social Media. He explains why social media are helpful personally, in business, and for Rotary. Contact Ray at rayyward@gmail.com.
Andrew Hughan, President of the Rancho Murieta Rotary Club, presents the unvarnished truth about life in Afghanistan. If you would like him to speak to your club about his adventure he can be reached at
ahughan@dfg.ca.gov
or 916.799.8100.
Check out this great new program, and note that the speaker is often available on very short notice:
"Strange Human Behavior"
Ever wonder why humans make decisions that seem illogical, even counter-productive? The speaker teaches critical thinking at Sac State for their Renaissance Society and explains in a very entertaining manner the curious ways humans buy, vote, and even choose a romantic partner. And you get to participate. After this presentation you will never think the same way again! Contact me at 916-722-1382, 916-721-6688, or at
kowaleski@earthlink.net
Here's another great program that I have personally seen: "Who's Your Great Granddaddy?" Ed Lucky is a master story teller who will enthrall you with his PowerPoint presentation of how he and his wife researched their family history, including cemetery trips to England, Scotland, and a trek through the Louisiana swamps. Ed then explains how YOU can research YOUR family history with the help of the Sacramento Regional Family History Center. A fascinating presentation! Contact Ed at 916-595-9361.
And Gopal Kapur's latest program: "Six Imperatives to Success" Discover the well tested and widely used steps that will help you achieve success in your professional and personal endeavors. Rotarian Gopal has been a favorite speaker throughout the district. Contact him at gkapur@center4pm.com.
And PDG Steve Lemmon also has a new program, "My Rotary Foundation Journey," a view of the foundation's programs through the eyes of a Rotarian as he discovers them and what they mean to individuals. Contact Steve at mailto:slemmon@lawtml.com.
If you want a speaker other than one in the current bureau, please contact me by phone or e-mail and I will share with you what I have in my pending file. I have received many inquires from non-profit organizations, individual speakers, and other speaker bureaus. Beware, though, that these are not yet vetted speakers! (My contact info is at the end of this blog.)
The success of this speakers bureau depends on you sending me info on good programs. I'll check them out and post in the bureau those that could be of interest to the other district clubs.
Thanks to all of you who have emailed me those leads for good speakers! Many have been added to our speakers bureau. However, not all of the recommended speakers have provided me a short, catchy title and mouth-watering program description, so that's the usual reason that they have not yet been added. Also, some speakers have not followed up in getting to me endorsements from Rotarians who will vouch for how wonderful their programs are. Remember, only vetted speakers get in!
Another important resource for you is the Program Summary link under Speakers Bureau. Here you will find upcoming programs at various clubs in the district. Check them out and you might find something that would be suitable for your club. And if you have programs scheduled for your club more than a couple of weeks ahead (you should!), add that info to the district calendar so other clubs can see what's available.
