Vocational Service (Youth Service)

Vocational Service
  • Every meeting, one member presents the "vocational minute", in which she/he summarizes a pertinent bit of information about her/his profession.
  • In October, we held an offsite meeting at Beerman's Brewery and were given a tour, at which we discussed the intricacies of the brewing industry.
  • We hold an annual Speech Contest for local high school students, with the winner advancing to Rotary Area and/or District level competition.
  • We annually present Vocational Service Awards to local professional in the areas of law enforcement, fire protection and education.
The Vocational Service Chair is Steve Hoverman.

Youth Service
  • We sponsor the annual Battle for The Oak football game between Fair Oaks' two high schools, Bella Vista and Del Campo, and award a trophy and scholarship to the winner.
  • We award a total of six scholarships, each between $500 and $1,000, to graduating seniors at Bella Vista and Del Campo High Schools.
  • We give semiannual attendance and citizenship awards to students at our local adopted elementary school, Northidge Elementary.
  • We have sponsored the Interact Club, a Rotary affiliate for high school students, at Bella Vista High School for the past twenty years.
  • We are sponsoring two high school students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly summer camp in the Sierras in June 2008.
  • The Bella Vista Lacrosse and Field Hockey teams helped as servers at our annual Crab Feed and raised over $2,200 in tips to help their teams.
