In our first official year as a Rotary Club, we have completed a number of projects, including:
• Collecting over $4,000 worth of clothing for the WEAVE Suited for Success program.
• Collaborating with a local high school senior and his scout troop to provide military packages to our men and women serving in Iraq. Food and toiletry items were donated to complete over 250 packages.
• Providing Thanksgiving “baskets” for needy families from a local elementary school. Fourteen families were provided turkey dinners and additional gifts as a result of efforts on the part of our members and a donation from a local Bel Air market.
• Picking up hot foods and bakery items from four local Bel Air and Raley’s Supermarkets and delivering them to a local church on Christmas Eve for distribution to families in the neighborhood. (Operation Put-n-Take)
• Adopting a needy family of six as our “Sub for Santa” project and providing clothing, toys, games, and books for each member of the family. A Holiday dinner was given that also provided additional meals for the family.
• Delivering dictionaries to every third grader at Alice Birney Elementary School.
• Filling and delivering Spring baskets to students at Alice Birney Elementary School who were designated as displaying outstanding citizenship. In addition to the baskets, each student at the school (225+) received a bag filled with candy and other treats.

For the Rotary at Workday on April 26, our Rotarians will be supporting the Friends of the Library annual book sale. This book sale is a major fundraiser that contributes to funding for the establishment of a library in the Pocket/Greenhaven area. |
